Innovation in BIORING is about several aspects related to advanced materials, chemistry and bio-based processing, coatings and manufacturing and sustainability.
Firstly, we are increasing the amount of bio-based content in coatings: from about 20-30% of products currently available in the market up to the 95% expected by the BIORING platform, with composition and properties adaptable to the specific needs of the user, and similar performances and costs as conventional coatings.
At the same time, we are addressing three main sustainability challenges:
- Convert biomass into polymers to synthetise the building blocks.
- Adapt the current polymer chemistry processes to the new building blocks.
- To do it in a cost-effective way.
We also think to the End-of-Life, since BIORING coatings are not a limitation in the overall recyclability of the final coated product.
Finally, we innovate to grant the upscaling and deployment in production of BIORING products.
Indeed, we are developing a flexible platform to allow the use of BIORING solution, as well as building-blocks developed by others, simply replacing previous fossil-based products without requiring major changes in existing process and protocols. It is the closest to a “drop-in” solution.
Moreover, our new bio-chemicals works in smart combination with bio-chemicals already on the market, to generate new value chain of more recyclable and durable products.
